POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Individual Giving is a key leadership role on the Development team, responsible for building, managing, and expanding a high-performing individual giving program. This person will lead efforts to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward a diverse portfolio of individual donors, including mid-level and major donors, to support Color Of Change’s bold mission and growing impact.
Working closely with the Chief Development Officer, senior leadership, and board members, the Director of Individual Giving will develop strategies to increase donor engagement and revenue across multiple channels. This is a critical moment for Color Of Change, and the ideal candidate is a strategic thinker, strong relationship-builder, and passionate advocate for racial justice.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategy & Leadership
- Develop and execute a comprehensive individual giving strategy to grow annual revenue from mid-level and major donors.
- Create and own revenue goals/targets and growth strategies for all individual donors (from grassroots to major gifts)
- Manage and optimize a donor pipeline, identifying new prospects and deepening engagement with existing supporters.
- Partner with the CDO and other senior staff to build a culture of philanthropy across the organization.
- Provide regular reports and forecasts to measure progress and inform strategy.
Donor Cultivation & Stewardship
- Manage a portfolio of 100 - 150 individual donors and prospects with the capacity to give $1,000+ annually.
- Lead cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship efforts through personalized outreach, virtual and in-person meetings, events, and campaigns.
- Develop cultivation and stewardship strategies for top donors
- Work with the communications team to craft compelling donor communications, proposals, and impact reports.
- Develop and implement stewardship strategies to retain and upgrade donors.
Team Management & Collaboration
- Supervise and mentor staff and consultants supporting individual giving, as needed.
- Collaborate with the digital fundraising, communications, campaigns, and finance teams to ensure aligned messaging and seamless execution.
- Work with the board and senior leadership to leverage their networks and deepen donor relationships.
- Lead and grow the efficiency and capacity of individual giving at COC, including hiring, as needed, and professional development
Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in fundraising, with a strong track record in individual giving and donor portfolio management.
- Demonstrated success cultivating and closing five- and six-figure gifts.
- Strong understanding of donor engagement strategies, moves management, and fundraising best practices.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to inspire and engage donors through storytelling.
- Commitment to racial justice and the mission of Color Of Change.
- Familiarity in multi-entity (c3, c4, and PAC) organizations.
- Comfort working in a fast-paced, collaborative, and mission-driven environment.
- Experience with CRM systems such as HubSpot, Salesforce and/or EveryAction is a plus.

COMPENSATION
The salary for the role of the Director of Individual Giving is 100,280 - 115,440 per year. This is a full-time, exempt position. Color Of Change also offers a competitive benefits package.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Working at Color Of Change (COC), you should be prepared to work remotely and/or in the assigned office location when hired. This position requires working core hours, Monday - Friday, on a laptop for most of the work day and additional time as required by job duties.
